When I was eight years old, I asked my mother to teach me to sew. “Ha, no!’ she replied, “you’ll HATE it.”

If only my mother had known.

When I did finally learn to sew, I was 14, taught by a close friend, the owner of Jaime Elyse Couture. I fell in love, and went on to make my own prom dress, as well as dresses for all of my friends. I learned to sew, and once I learned, I never stopped, stitching my way through an Associates Degree in Apparel Design in 2006, and into a job at a design house. From there, life led me to Los Angeles and a roll as an associate designer/technical designer, where I stitched my way through my pregnancy and the birth of my son in 2012.

I didn’t hate it. Sewing and designing is the thing that makes me come alive.

I stitched my way through the harder things too – a relocation away from LA that was the catalyst to start my own Etsy shop designing breastfeeding clothing, through which I sold a few hundred ponchos in my very first year. I stitched my way through the pain of divorce, and the life-changing news of my son’s autism diagnosis a year later. As a single mother and entrepreneur, I’m intimately familiar with the myriad challenges facing today’s women, and I combined that knowledge with my passion to create Maluxe, a line of handcrafted clothing for women of all ages, sizes, and needs. I draft each pattern and sketch every design by hand, and as I am accustomed to using every scrap of energy and time, I’ve created innovative ways to incorporate my fabric remnants into my line, using them to craft chokers, bracelets, and lingerie that reflect my customer’s hobbies and style.

Each of us is responsible for designing a life we love, and it’s my joy to use my talent to bring out the beauty in each of my customers. It’s a lifestyle that has granted me the freedom to care for my son, travel to trade shows and events around the country, and develop relationships with countless inspiring women. It is my hope that my clothes inspire you – to follow your passions, to get back up when life knocks you backward, and to always, always, keep stitching your way forward.
